It was a quiet weekend, with Miss Ella-Bean getting over a cold, we were mostly house-bound. One can only read so many board books, however, so both Saturday and Sunday evening we ventured out for a walk in one of our favorite neighborhoods. The houses are large and old, and at dusk many blinds hadn't yet been pulled so we got little glimpses of life indoors. There is something that makes the world outside feel extra-quiet when you see a family around a dining table or talking or watching TV. I don't mean this in a creepy-voyeuristic way, but rather as an empathic connection with others, even if you've never met them, seeing others play out such familiar scenes. It makes me feel more connected to our area, walking in the evening with people I love, taking in our urban environment. We are very lucky in so many ways, sometimes I'm reminded of this in the most subtle of ways...
